’07 AMA Endurocross championship, Round 3, Orleans Arena Las Vegas

Knighter wins ’07 AMA Endurocross championship

Red Bull KTM Off Road Race Team rider David Knight claimed his second championship of ’07 this passed weekend when the two-time Enduro 3 world champion added the AMA Endurocross title to the Grand National Cross Country championship he claimed at the end of October. Winner of the opening two rounds of the ’07 Endurocross series staged in Colorado and Oklahoma, Knight arrived in Vegas eight points ahead of his closest championship rival Damon Huffman and ready to win his second Endurocross title.

Easily winning his qualifying heat and impressively fast around the challenging course housed within the Orleans Arena Knight looked all but assured of claiming his second Endurocross title after Huffman, the championship’s second most consistent rider at rounds one and two, struggled through the LCQ to make it into the final. Starting well Knight was soon into the lead of the 10 rider main event.

Knowing all to well that one mistake could rob him of the Endurocross title the Manxman put in several faultless laps to open up a small gap at the front of the field. Behind Knight KTM mounted Pole ‘Taddy’ Blazusiak quickly worked his way up into second and for three laps the two riders were separated by nothing at all. As the race neared its close, and not wanting to get into a battle with his team-mate that might result in neither of the two riders winning the race should they have collided with each other, Knight let Taddy take over the lead and one lap later the win. In winning the race Taddy stopped Knight from claiming the $50’000 Motorcycle Mechanic’s Institute prize money that was available to him had he have won the race.

Extremely disappointed at having not won the sizeable prize purse available to him Knight was pleased to have ‘won back’ his AMA Endurocross title. In doing so David secured his second major US off-road championships in ’07.

David Knight: "That was one of the hardest races I've ever done. Not because the track was too difficult, it wasn't it was a great track, but because I couldn't push as hard as I wanted to try and win the race because I knew winning the championship was more important. Taddy was riding really well, and bumped me in a few corners, but it was too risky for me to ride hard - one mistake indoors and your race can be over. If that had happened then I could have lost the championship, who knows what could have happened. So I decided to move over and let him passed, which was hard. But like I said winning the championship was more important than winning the race. Yeah, I'm pissed about not winning the money, who wouldn't be. Winning the GNCC and Endurocross championships in the same year is great, but tonight things didn't go the way I thought or hoped they would."

Results – ’07 AMA Endurocross Round 3, Las Vegas

  1. Taddy Blazusiak (KTM) 8 laps
  2. David Knight (Red Bull KTM Off Road Race team) 8 laps
  3. Mika Ahola (Honda) 8 laps
  4. Colton Haaker (Montesa) 8 laps
  5. Nick Bozobvich (Yamaha) 8 laps
  6. Geoff Aaron (KTM) 8 laps

Dorset Police MCC is staging their annual Hare and Hounds on Sunday 3rd February 2008 at a brand new forest venue nr Bovington, Dorset.

Past Winner - Nick Life

The large forest is adjacent to the military training area and the Police club are
genuinely excited about the prospect of staging another of their challenging events. A five mile lap has already been identified by work parties and further distance is expected to be added on the run up to the event.

Winner of the Police events in 2006 and 2007 Nick Life will be absent due to an
unfortunate date clash with the Le Touguet beach race therefore a new name will top the results in 2008. The entire course will be in the forest with numerous fire roads linking the varied forest going, and to make things interesting this forest benefits from a couple of interesting hills which will feature hard and easy routes. The event will be run under ACU regulations but the Police club will only be charging £7 for those that need an ACU day licence.

The rider registration deadline for Red Bull Last Man Standing is Friday, November 23. A total of 300 A level riders will be accepted by registering at www.redbulllastmanstanding.com. The registration fee is $100, with a 100% payback.

The third edition of Red Bull Last Man Standing will take place at the Red
River Motorcycle Trails in Bulcher, Texas. Qualifying is Friday, December 7
and the top 100 qualifiers will take off at the blast of the cannon on
Saturday, December 8
. David Knight is the two-time winner of the event.

The course, designed to challenge the world’s best riders, will undergo
changes for this year’s event. The race will once again consist of two 35
to 40-mile laps, one during the day and one at night, with the night course
reversed. It will again feature special “element” sections that will test
riders’ mettle. New this year, to alleviate rider bottlenecks, the course
will gradually increase in difficulty. By the six-mile mark, riders will
enter complex terrain, which will become more difficult with every mile.
The course will also bring the riders back into the pit/spectator area,
which will allow them to stop for gas and let spectators watch more racing
action.

SHOCKING NEWS from CCM…
Thor Motorcycles in Bodmin have just aquired CCM's latest off-road tool.
            ... AND IT’S A TWIN SHOCK!!

The new SR40 from CCM celebrates the heyday period of the 60's & 70's classic scramble bike, with this 400cc retro styled dirt iron. They have made it as close to a typical bike of that period as possible - except this one has great brakes - discs front and back - and also an electric start. Items now considered essential to have fun in modern times.

These will be very exclusive as CCM plan to only build 80 of these Old Timers!

Yes these are brand new CCM's.

The bikes are full of special trick parts, including hand made tanks, special Hagon shocks, Paioli 40mm forks and with a seat height of only 800mm will be ideal for any elderly shrinking dirt biking man or woman ;o)

Full Price: £ 5,701 on the road. But Thor's demo is available for test rides now and Colin Trellevan MD of Thor, tells me the best news is, that their actual bike can be bought from Thor right now at a bargain price of only £5,000.

Why, they've even made it sound like a scrambler from the 60's. If you are interested you had better check it out quick…

FREE - Natterjack 2007 Video
Charlie Ellis has produced a video from both days action of this years Natterjack enduro, - the last round of the BEC. ...and he has kindly uploaded it to youtube for us to view.

For those not in the know, A British round is very diferent from a 3 hour hare and hound. The top riders which are in the Championship and Expert class will always be riding fast and flat out, but the lesser mortals - probably like most of us, - will just be trying to stay upright and last for two 50 mile laps - each day!!

200 miles is a long way on a dirtbike on soft sand with thousands of trees and tree roots!
Its not easy and some of the guys on the video that look slow are just trying to survive - riding in a soft sandy wood is very tricky. Thats why so many crash doing it.

Anyway its great fun - Watch Charlie's Natterjack video HERE
Thank you Mr Ellis.

SCEC 2008 dates...

Hi Guys

We have some dates lined up for next year - they’re not set in stone
yet but we’ll work to them as best we’re able.

17th February - Hare & Hound Enduro @ Blandford
16th March – Hare & Hound Enduro @ Six Penny Handley
18th May - Hare Scramble - venue tbc
6th July – SCEC Hare Scramble - venue tbc
20/21st September - SCEC BEC (British Enduro Championship) round at
Ringwood Forest (to be confirmed)
12th October - Hare Scramble - venue tbc
7th December - Hare Scramble - venue tbc

other events…

Dorset Police Forest Hare & Hounds Enduro – 3rd February @ Bovington
Forest.
Rogershill Raceway 3 round Summer Evening Series - dates tba
SCEC/Royal Marines MEXE race - date tba.

You’ll notice we’ve started calling our events either ‘Hare Scrambles’ or ‘Hare & Hounds Enduros’ depending on the style of the event.

Hare Scrambles will tend to be faster more flowing circuits over open
terrain (often including moto-x tracks) and suitable for riders of all abilities whereas ‘Hare & Hounds Enduros’ will tend to be much tighter, more technical (enduro style) terrain for more experienced riders or ambitious newcomers. We hope the new definitions will make it easier for riders to choose events to their liking.

Meanwhile we’re only 4 weeks away from this years next event at Milton Abbas. It’s a ‘Hare Scramble’ meaning it’s fast and flowing and it’s at yet another stunning new venue – we’re really excited about this place because we know you are gonna love it. It’s awesome. Guaranteed!

Hope you can make it! Regs are attached or available from the website
and we very much look forward to seeing you there.

Till then all the very best,

Gary & the team

ENDURO News - Regarding Front Sprockets

All competitors are reminded of the regulations included in the ACU Handbook. As Follows:

' if the primary transmission is exposed, it must be fitted with a guard as a safety measure. The guard must be conceived in such a manner that under no circumstances can the rider come into accidental contact with the transmission parts. A guard must be fitted to the gear box sprocket.'

So take note BEFORE you next take your bike to scrutineering !
